Los Cabos: It just keeps getting better!

Los Cabos may be the most luxurious destination in the Americas. Can you name any resort destination that has more top luxury brands than Los Cabos?

While fifty years ago the tip of the Baja Peninsula was mostly known for world-class sport fishing, it has long been the choice for jet set romantics who were pampered at Las Ventanas al Paraiso, now run by Rosewood Hotels. But, the list goes on and on – Auberge Hotels and Resorts in addition to its fabulous Esperanza, has opened in the past years the chic Chileno Bay. Waldorf Astoria has Pedregal. The Ritz-Carlton’s special Reserve brand has Zadun. There is a hotel outpost of Japanese fusion chef Nobu Matsuhisa. Viceroy has an architecturally stunning property and Starwood’s luxury collection has the authentic feeling, Solaz. One & Only Palmilla is a top game in town. Montage Hotels known for its flagship Laguna Niguel and Deer Valley properties has a Forbes Five Star resort here. While all of these fabulous properties lie on the hotel corridor between the twin cities of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, the newest player in town is located an hour up the coast on the isolated and beautiful Sea of Cortez in Costa Palmas and is anchored by the new Four Seasons Resort, soon to be joined by the exclusive Aman.

Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas

This visit I was drawn to the new Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas located on the East Cape of the Gulf of California, an isolated region known for its scenery. The 1,000-acre development, about 35 minutes north of San José del Cabo, includes multimillion-dollar homes and a world-class marina capable of holding private yachts up to 200 feet. With two miles of pristine un-developed beach, multiple pools and relaxation areas, huge rooms with terraces or patios, and the entire property built as an open air concept, there may be no better place to social distance.

Tip – there is no upcharge for private cabanas at Four Seasons – a very nice touch!

From Casa de Brasa, to Limon, to an outpost of Greek fish restaurant, Milo, to the food truck, every bite at Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos was delectable. Mexican wines are not to be missed even by wine aficionados!

Our ride into town to the local beach of La Ribera was fun and even passed the employee bus which brings me to my next point – Four Seasons employers worldwide truly are the very best in class! The consistency worldwide is remarkable – #wearefourseasons

Costa Las Palmas is an uber exclusive development which will attract guests that long to be in a stunning destination but with a bit of privacy. The development will soon also be home to a stunning Aman resort and will be complete with a world class marina and luxury villas. For active guests, the 19 hole golf course, tennis and fitness center, spectacular spa, and boutiques will keep everyone happy. Four Seasons always offers super and complimentary Kids for All Seasons programming and cool hang outs for teens. This is the place to definitely go now as there is no safer place to social distance and service and protocol are TOP NOTCH! I can see the resort quickly becoming THE PLACE to be for in-the-know savvy travelers seeking the next greatest spot!

Montage Los Cabos

Montage Los Cabos

Only two years old, Montage Los Cabos quickly earned the coveted Forbes Five Star status both for the resort and the spa. Architecturally it may make guests feel like they are in Arizona, but the neutral minimalist style of the resort makes room for the outstanding service to be the star of the show.

The lobby is purposefully bare perhaps to draw your gaze to the ocean that lies ahead

Staff throughout the property are on top of their game from each guests dedicated butler, to the culinary team, to housekeeping, and even top notch spa therapists and yoga instructors.

Guest rooms all have spacious balconies or terraces

Montage Los Cabos offers rooms, suites and multi-bedroom residences.

Montage Pools and Beach are architecturally stunning, though located in a rather compact area. There is some separation for adults and kids, but I would say generally the resort appeals more to adults or families with older teens.

The beach is gorgeous and with a calm cove ideal for snorkeling, it is very popular with locals and tourists alike. Montage guests of course have exclusive use of the loungers and cabanas.

Paletas is the place to go for, well, divine popsicles!

The cuisine at Montage Los Cabos is outstanding. I would say that the Mexican tasting menu we enjoyed at Mexcal, featuring regional specialties with a contemporary take from throughout the country, was one of the most rewarding meals I have had in a while. Paired with outstanding Mexican wines, this dinner was truly a highlight!

I rarely indulge in breakfast, but when I am in Mexico, I rarely miss it. It is such a colorful and delicious meal – chicken enchiladas and huevos Motulenos were to die for!

Leaving Cabo is never easy, but with so many terrific resorts, there is always a reason to book a return trip!! I can help!

Forbes Five Star Spa

The Forbes Five Star Spa offered me truly one of the best spa treatments I have ever had. Expensive but worth it!

He may just stay!

Rosewood Las Ventanas al Paraiso

While the focus of this trip was to see what is new in Cabo, I can say with all certainty that even the classics are absolutely special in Cabo and there is nothing more classic, romantic, and visually stunning than Rosewood’s Las Ventanas al Paraiso. We popped over to check out the villas and to have a wonderful seaside lunch and Las Ventanas did not disappoint.

The lobby of Las Ventanas al Paraiso

The private villas are right on the beach, with wonderful al fresco areas including the bedrooms, and are full of color and warmth. I can certainly understand why guests come down here to pass away the pandemic in style and privacy.

Private Villa Pool

Again, the food and the service – FLAWLESS. It just does not get any better than in Cabo! Salud!

  1. Photos are great! Looks like you had a great time. I bought a Cabo boat last summer. Maybe it’s a sign to visit this place with my family! Thank you for an inspiration.

Which resort is best with kids ages 12 and 15 year old? Or would you suggest another luxury hotel? Thanks!

      2. Resort to Laura Madrid

I think Four Seasons does a tremendous job with families and has a ton do for teens if they are active.

Very informative blog but still torn. I love Las ventanas but now wanting to try between Four seasons and montage. What do you recommend?

    1. Resort to Laura Madrid

It depends what you are seeking. Las Ventanas is wonderful all around!! Four Seasons is more wild/remote and more spread out with nearly private beach with lots of room to walk and cycle. Montage is more compact and great people watching. Beach is a bit crowded but beautiful swimmable spot.
