A Naturally Relaxed Island Paradise – St. Lucia

So many of us love the Caribbean but are a bit concerned about it being all about the beach and not much more.  St. Lucia is a naturally stunning island with incredible vegetation, volcanic mountains, superb snorkeling, genuine hospitality, and the famous Pitons are not hard on the eyes either!

We did a full island tour with a helicopter ride up to the northern most point, Cap Estate, with a stunning stay at the quaint and charming Cap Maison.  And then took a boat down the coast to experience the Pitons and a stay at the breathtaking and truly one-of-a-kind Jade Mountain.

St. Lucia has a massive rain forest – lush! Flying over it via helicopter as we make our ay up to Cap Estate.

A great way to arrive. St. Lucia is a fairly large island and if you can swing a heli-ride, it is a real treat!

Arriving to Castries – cant wait to finally see Cap Maison! Nice to avoid the long drive!

Almost there to see Ross and Rufus (even if Ross had a cold and Rufus is in Anguilla)

Good morning, Cap Maison! Amazing Villa! This is the way to go in this tranquil oasis. Staying at Cap is like being in a private home. Your villa is your me-place for morning coffee, after-run swims, and afternoon rums!

Love the privacy of our garden – peaking through the vegetation down to Smugglers Cove.

If you dont want tourist, if you dont want to see a vendor, the privacy of the beach at Cap Maison is beyond. Not fancy, but just the way it might be at home. Fresh fish on the grill, gorgeous beach, perhaps a kayak challenge?

Yes, the beaches are nice with a volcanic sandy brown hue and fantastic snorkeling just off the coast, but what makes St. Lucia special is the fact that you have the rain forest and incredible elevations – perfect for zip-lining, trail cycling, hiking, climbing and of course visiting the plantations, volcanoes and even mud-baths.

This is it – 4 flights of stairs down – and you have a beach bar to yourself. Call the chef and you have your own beach bbq for lunch!

A gorgeous pizza or two is a must at Elenas – the unassuming joint at the Morgans Bay Marina just below Cap Estate.

I love the local feel to this island. The fishermans boats docked as they lunch and we navigate south towards Soufriere.

Our gentlemen, captaining us down South – great ride on the Caribbean cost of St. Lucia – down to Jade Mountain. It is an island big enough to enjoy a two-center holiday!

One thing that struck me is the unapologetic “let-it-all-hang-out” attitude of the locals – they are genuinely upbeat, kind, hard-working, and happy to see you.  There is a bit of personality everywhere you go, and no-one is shy to give you a smile or tell you a story.

At Jade, every Sanctuary has its own bridge to paradise.

WOW WOW WOW – arrival into Jade Mountain. This place does not reveal itself on line or on any reviews. Nick and Karolin have outdone themselves with this project. One of the many bridges to somewhere….

The Pitons, up close and personal at every turn – even on a cloudy day. This feels slightly like Bora Bora, but only 4 hours from mainland USA.

You are in the rain forest, expect several showers, and always a reward…..

The pool in our room! The living room is insane! Depending on the “Sanctuary” you select, all a magnificent view with unique pool and setting. No two rooms are the same!

Very easy NOT to leave your room at Jade Mountain! We are in the Galaxy!! Does not get better!

Loving hitting the trails with my husband. Working hard for your dinner and drinks is the best way to holiday, in my mind!

Do not want to leave! We stayed one day too short! That is a good way to leave – wanting more!!

St. Lucia was a wonderful surprise to me and I will certainly return, but in the interim, I hope to live vicariously through many happy clients who will head on a non-stop flight to this lush island country – hip but authentic in its own way!
