So many of us love the Caribbean but are a bit concerned about it being all about the beach and not much more. St. Lucia is a naturally stunning island with incredible vegetation, volcanic mountains, superb snorkeling, genuine hospitality, and the famous Pitons are not hard on the eyes either!
We did a full island tour with a helicopter ride up to the northern most point, Cap Estate, with a stunning stay at the quaint and charming Cap Maison. And then took a boat down the coast to experience the Pitons and a stay at the breathtaking and truly one-of-a-kind Jade Mountain.
- St. Lucia has a massive rain forest – lush! Flying over it via helicopter as we make our ay up to Cap Estate.
- Flying over the Marina
- A great way to arrive. St. Lucia is a fairly large island and if you can swing a heli-ride, it is a real treat!
Yes, the beaches are nice with a volcanic sandy brown hue and fantastic snorkeling just off the coast, but what makes St. Lucia special is the fact that you have the rain forest and incredible elevations – perfect for zip-lining, trail cycling, hiking, climbing and of course visiting the plantations, volcanoes and even mud-baths.
One thing that struck me is the unapologetic “let-it-all-hang-out” attitude of the locals – they are genuinely upbeat, kind, hard-working, and happy to see you. There is a bit of personality everywhere you go, and no-one is shy to give you a smile or tell you a story.
St. Lucia was a wonderful surprise to me and I will certainly return, but in the interim, I hope to live vicariously through many happy clients who will head on a non-stop flight to this lush island country – hip but authentic in its own way!
